I have been on vacation from August 21st to August 31st. I did not go anywhere I just spent time with my love, *EruditeBastich we've had our 9th year Anniversary on the 26th. We are still not married.

The point of my journal is on Tuesday September 1st my best friend Ginger (a min pin dog) had a decrease of appetite and energy, by Wednesday I called the vet and brought her in because she stopped eating and was very lethargic. Which I fail to understand because she has always been like a puppy and vacation did not change that. She was eating, playing, and being her sweet affectionate self.

Now those that I talk to on a regular basis know that I had to take Ginger to the vet for a dentist appointment earlier in August to get her teeth checked. I had to change her food. So you can imagine my surprise that I take her in 3 weeks later (Wednesday) and hear she has acute Anemia. The vet and I scheduled an appointment for Thursday to get a ultrasound and possible blood transfusion. They gave me drugs to fight a possible parasite and give a boost to her system. Wednesday night she gives me lots of love and kisses. We watch a movie together and she is perkier.

By Thursday morning, she is so wobbly she can't stand. Mike takes her to the waterbowl and she drinks and while drinking she slumps down and sits in the weirdest position I've ever seen and pees right there WHILE drinking. Mike takes her to the vet at 7 am before work. I sit by the phone. They call four times that day. None of it good news, the ultrasound showed a decreased red blood cell count and her spleen enlarged. By 4:30 pm they call wanting me to come talk to them and pick her up to go home . . . My mom took me, mike was still at work. We get there by 5 pm.

They talk to me about lots of things. They are just as worried and dumbfounded as me. They tell me her prognosis is guarded to poor that a blood transfusion would give her time with a 50/50 chance of recovery. They want me to give her medicine and new ones when we get home. I go back into the waiting room while they get Ginger.

Less than ten minutes later the doctor comes back out, Ginger collapsed while he woke her to leash her. He tells me she can;t go home . . .it's 5:30, I call Mike, meanwhile they bring Ginger to me in one of the exam rooms . . . I drop the phone at the sight of her, mom leaves a message for Mike. My buddy, my companion of 13 almost 14 years is no longer red with shades of gray running through her shiny coat. She is dull, yellow, literally yellow . . . and rasping for breath . . . they put her in my lap and she grunts at me. Her special way to me for saying hello. She is so cold to the touch. I wrap her in a towel and talk to her. She nudges me with her nose, too tired to lick me.

5:45 Mike is with me still in his mailman uniform. She looks at all of us and we say goodbye. The doctor comes back to take her to put a capiter in her neck. They bring her back and I hold her for the final time. She is put back on the table, Mom holds her head up gently, I stroke her head and whisper to her how beautiful she is and how much she is loved. I can't say I'll miss her it won't come out. Mike gives her a belly rub one last time and mom reholds her head as the doctor sticks the needle in.

The light faded from her eyes in less than a minute and the deep rasping breathes went so quiet. Ginger is gone.

My heart is broke.

I'd like to thank these people who gave me 3 extra years with Ginger and helped give me $550 dollars to help get a gall stone removed in 2006.
